The Compton Cowboys are a collective of friends on a mission to uplift their community through a horseback and farming lifestyle “Straight Outta Richland Farms.”
They firmly believe the Compton Jr. Equestrians saved them from “growing up rough” due to a lack of guidance and positive influences in the gang-ridden city of Compton. Now they’re all about giving back as role models, combatting negative stereotypes, and inspiring kids to be upstanding citizens through riding.
Resources are scarce. They often rely on second hand riding gear and auctioned-off horses, which put them at a competitive disadvantage, and at times they’ve had to ride “bareback” when training with a limited number of saddles. They also seek equipment needed to expand into dressage and hunter jumper riding -- and are currently pooling funds for a riding ring.
